~ Cutting Board ~

This is an odd post for me. But, when I start to tell my story, anyone who knows me well will understand.

I love my cutting board.

As you may know, I'm a little obsessive/compulsive. Gee, big surprise! And even though I have learned to live with clutter, as I have way too much stuff in too small a home, I am obsessive about my drawers and closets. Hangers have to match, clothes have to be hung in order and facing one direction, that sort of thing. But, probably my biggest compulsion is folding clothes. I love laundry and will fold clothes any chance I get. I've always said that if there was money to be made in retail, I'd be there folding clothes all day long. I've also converted a few people to my way of folding towels, you know who you are. I've even discussed at length with a co-worker how I fold towels and we compared techniques. Sick, I know. One thing I am proud of is my ability to fold a fitted sheet, quite nicely I must boast. And my biggest dream if I were to build my own home, would be a beautiful laundry room with a counter long enough to fold those sheets.

So, that said, lo and behold, I have Steven and Chris on the television the other day for background noise when I hear that they are going to have some folding expert on next. I almost pulled something racing back to the living room to see her!

Here we get to the statement about my cutting board. She (Deb Nelson - hmmm, something about the last name that rings a bell, wonder if she's any relation? LOL), uses a cutting board to get nice crisp edges and make the shirts and towels uniform in size. Now, I've always wanted to get my hands on one of those plexiglass sheets that retail stores use. It must be the blond hair, but it never occurred to me to use a simple $ Store cutting board! So, you can imagine what I've been doing the last two weeks! Yes, systematically going through every drawer and shelf and refolding my already neat and quite uniform clothes and towels. And having a great time.

She even gave me another tip to make my fitted sheets even more neat.

I said to Nathan that it makes me feel quite calm and settled inside to have this kind of organization. He looked at me like I was crazy and wondered what I'd just been smoking! But it does, and my drawers and shelves have never looked better!!!

I read this comment on another women's blog and it says it perfectly, I had to steal it:

"I find it funny that such a silly little thing would bring me such joy. I sometimes giggle as I fold clean shirts with my cutting board. And I love the idea that the cutting board helps me do it."

Here is the link to "Steven and Chris on CBC" if anyone wants to watch the video or see the photogallery:

Happy Folding!
